Spring is just around the corner, and Kingdom Come State Park in Harlan County, Kentucky, is offering a brand new reason to get outdoors. The park's highly anticipated first rental cabin is nearing completion, with more on the way!
Kingdom Come boasts the distinction of having the highest elevation of any Kentucky state park. Park Manager Sherry Cornett promises the cabin will take full advantage of this. "The view from the living room window or porch will be incredible," she enthused. "Imagine sitting on your porch and watching the sunset – all from the highest point in any Kentucky state park!"
The completion date is fast approaching, with a target of springtime. "We're already 65-70% finished," Cornett shared. "The drywall's up, cabinets are going in, and we just picked out furniture, bedding, and flooring. Things are moving quickly now." The cabin's exterior is also nearing completion, with siding around 90% finished and the roof already complete.
This is just the first phase of the project. As soon as the first cabin is ready, work will begin on additional cabins. The current goal is for a total of three.
Construction began in late fall of last year, aiming for a mid-spring completion. "We're on track, maybe even a little ahead of schedule," Cornett noted.
The finished cabin will be a haven for nature lovers. It boasts two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a bathroom, and more. "There will be multiple beds that can sleep up to five people," Cornett explained. "Imagine a vaulted ceiling, a gorgeous patio, a full kitchen and bath – all right at the trailhead of the Pine Mountain Scenic Trail, one of the state's most beautiful trails! You'll have breathtaking Bullock Overlook as your constant view and be just 20 feet from the trailhead – perfect for hikers."
Cornett highlights the cabin's perfect timing for enjoying upcoming park activities. "We're starting Blacklight Mini Golf next month, along with our Hippity Hop Easter celebration and Easter Scavenger Hunt, featuring a unique blacklight twist! We also have the Raven Rock 5k and several cycling events happening throughout March and April."
