Ever yearned for that escape to the tranquility of the countryside, where the world fades into the background? Well, look no further than Rest + Wild luxury cabins in Exmoor. Their philosophy revolves around offering "a little room to breathe, small spaces to switch off." These charming wooden cabins, each nestled in its own field, provide the perfect haven for rest and relaxation. With wood burners and outdoor copper baths, they encapsulate the essence of bliss.
Rest + Wild emerged in 2020, during the lockdown when urban dwellers sought refuge in rural retreats. Their initial cabins graced the Shropshire Hills, and a new addition now graces Exmoor in North Devon. These cabins, designed for two, feature king-size beds, premium bedding, wood burners for chilly nights, al fresco copper baths, and inviting fire pits. What they intentionally lack is WiFi, urging guests to disconnect, a welcome respite.
Our cabin bestowed breathtaking countryside views while preserving our privacy, a true luxury when enjoying an outdoor bath. Surprisingly, the neighboring sheep seemed unperturbed by our presence, allowing us to harmonize with nature.
One of the highlights of our stay was waking up to the idyllic field view and the symphony of nature. Observing our woolly neighbors and their playful lambs provided a profound sense of peace.
This transcends mere glamping; the cabins are spacious, immaculate, and exceedingly comfortable. They strike a perfect balance with their amenities, featuring solar power and natural toiletries. The coziness of the cabin was further enhanced by evenings spent by the fire reading books, while the outdoor fire pit added a touch of magic. In the evening, the starry night sky, untainted by light pollution, invites stargazing as the area is a Dark Sky Reserve.
Regarding sustenance, owing to the cabins' remote location, you can either bring your own provisions or opt for a tailor-made hamper brimming with local delicacies. We indulged in the delightful pizza hamper and a convenient breakfast hamper that eliminated mealtime deliberations. I wholeheartedly recommend this choice.
In the broader vicinity, a multitude of dining options awaits, including the 16th-century charm of The London Inn at Molland, just around the corner, and an array of gastro pubs, such as Tarr Farm Inn in Dulverton.
The true essence of this retreat lies in the art of slowing down and savoring nature and the rural landscape. Rest + Wild offers helpful suggestions for local walks, which we eagerly followed, including a hike up Dunkery Beacon to soak in panoramic views from Exmoor's highest peak and a serene riverside stroll across the Tarr Steps footbridge.
For those seeking aquatic adventures, the region boasts numerous sites for wild swimming, from the tranquil plunge pools and waterfalls of Long Pool, Watersmeet, to the pristine waters of Wimbleball Lake. For the more adventurous, opportunities for horseback riding along the 400 miles of bridleways or mountain biking abound.
Venturing to the coast is also worthwhile, as Exmoor boasts picturesque towns and beaches like Porlock and Lynton.
And after an eventful day, what could be better than a leisurely soak in the bath followed by curling up with a book by the fire? Your journey to rejuvenation will be complete.
